Make your mark at one of the biggest names in payments. We’re looking for a Database Engineer Specialist to join our ever-evolving Merchant Solutions Oracle DBA team and help us unleash the potential of every business.
What you’ll own as the Database Engineer Specialist
The Database engineer will support the Acquiring platform, the role requires the engineer to work as part of a team to build, document, maintain, optimize database environments using best practices to achieve a well-engineered result.
The DBA Engineer will be working alongside the Infrastructure, Development and other DBA teams to implement and coordinate cross-department change, ensuring optimum service availability whilst maximising the throughput of required change. Responsibilities will include the following:
Designing/building and documenting large and complex Oracle database environments including Exadata
Handle the databases capacity planning based on Worldpay business growth and identify ways/new database features to adapt to Worldpay business needs and new technologies.
Troubleshoot complex database performance and identify solutions to maintain/improve Oracle database performance.
Consolidate and refine Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture best practices within Worldpay.
Creating technical plans /implementing complex Oracle database environments upgrade/migrations to new platforms
Perform environment refreshes with physical and logical database backups.
Maintain Oracle software lifecycle and install new versions of the Oracle RDBMS and its tools and any other tools that access the Oracle database.
Creates and maintains all databases required for development, testing and production usage.
Deliver all solutions with an “automation first” approach that reduces and ultimately removes the need for any manual intervention for builds and deployments – ensuring consistency and speed for all environment delivery and change.
Take ownership of new initiatives and defining requirements and acceptance criteria for Proof of Concepts and taking suitable solutions into Test and up to Production environments.
Generating innovative solutions in work situations; applying "out of the box" thinking and challenging the status quo in dealing with work problems and opportunities
Define, develop and maintain documentation knowledgebase.
Use your knowledge to mentor and to create training materials and execute trainings for the rest of engineering team/other teams.
Proactively identify improvements and enhancements to working practices.
Resolution of production incidents and working alongside with Oracle Support and the business stakeholders to help to build a positive profile of the team that fully supports the Worldpay values.
Compliance with incident resolution best practice
Ability to work within an agile environment.
What you’ll bring
10+ years of experience in Oracle Database Administration including:
Very good knowledge of physical and logical database design.
Very good knowledge of how Oracle acquires and manages resources.
Strong knowledge of RAC databases, ASM, Grid infrastructure version 12c/19c and working experience
In depth knowledge and practical experience in database performance troubleshooting/tuning, SQL tuning.
In depth knowledge of RMAN backup and recovery concepts and scenarios.
Strong knowledge and experience with Data Guard, physical standby databases.
Strong knowledge and experience with DataPump
Knowledge and experience in migrating code, database changes, data refreshes through the various stages of the development life cycle.
A good knowledge of Oracle security management.
Ability to perform both Oracle and operating system performance monitoring and the necessary adjustments.
3 years+ in working with Exadata/or in other complex infrastructures.
Good skills in Oracle monitoring/troubleshooting tools.
Ability to provide a strategic database direction for the organisation.
A good knowledge of the operating system (RHEL/OEL).
Degree level education (in related subject of computing, maths, science, engineering) or equivalent
Good communication skills
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle
Track record in delivering work to schedule and specification.
A sound understanding of the business.
Sound communication skills with management, development teams, vendors, systems administrators, and other related service providers.

Oracle Golden Gate
Cloud Database Experience
Experience with scripting/automation – perl/python/bash/Ansible
