We are looking for a Senior Optics / DWDM Network Engineer with at least 5 years of experience in optical transport networks for a 1‑year onsite project at the client office in Bucharest. The specialist will provide advanced technical support for optical and DWDM equipment and act as the technical point of contact between the Vodafone Transport Network Engineering team and the Optics Engineering team (Nokia) for the network project.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in telecom engineering / optical networks, with a strong focus on DWDM and optical transport equipment (senior level).
Proven experience in network monitoring, configuration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of DWDM systems.
Solid understanding of optical fiber parameters and experience with optical testing instruments (e.g., OTDR, power meters).
Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work directly with client and vendor teams.
Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal).
Onsite availability for the duration of the project at the Vodafone site in Bucharest.
Monitor and interpret network alarms using WS‑NOC, and perform troubleshooting for identified issues.
Configure performance monitoring (PM) and provide technical assistance to the client team during commissioning, configuration, and integration of Nokia 1830PSS DWDM equipment.
Create network commissioning files based on existing designs (CPB files).
Collect, analyze, and review optical fiber parameters and conditions, contributing to network optimization.
Manage services on existing nodes, including service creation, modification, and deletion (including Layer 2 over DWDM).
Perform optical power measurements, adjustments, and interpret results from OTDR and other optical testing tools.
Execute network element backups and restores as needed.
Coordinate equipment swaps related to traffic and prepare Bills of Materials (BoM) for new service implementations.
Perform software upgrades for network elements according to Nokia procedures.
Support field technicians with acceptance testing and documentation during deployment.
Organize technical meetings between Vodafone and Nokia teams and prepare presentations as requested.
Update technical documentation and network test procedures and review them with both Vodafone and Nokia engineering teams.
Administer and operate the WS‑NOC system.
