Your impact
As the Senior System Engineer with Linux, you are responsible for planning, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting secure computer environments. You will provide support for OpenText’s cloud-based messaging platforms with a focus on Application Engineering and System support.
What the role offers
- Perform the planning, coordination and execution of software and hardware installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrades
- Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about software, hardware, systems, and infrastructure
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues, interfacing with others as required
- Participate in short- and long-term projects where interaction with internal and external organizations/customers/vendors is required
- Installation and configuration of internally developed and third-party commercial & open source application software in our test and production environments
- Attending regularly scheduled off-hours site/platform maintenance as needed
What you need to succeed
Required:
- Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration
- Understanding of common network protocols and Web Services (SMTP, SFTP, DNS, HTTPS, TLS, JBoss, Apache, Tomcat)
- Working knowledge of Oracle Solaris
- Experience with scripting (Perl, Python, Bash or similar)
- Experience with VMware vSphere 5,6,7 suites; including but not limited to configuration, administration, capacity planning, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Experience with monitoring tools (HP OMi, Zabbix, Nagios or similar)
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree. Equivalent work-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Automation and configuration tools such as PowerShell (PowerCLI), Python, or Ansible (writing playbooks)
- Established technical problem-solving and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think creatively to find solutions
- Ability to work well under stressful situations
- Must be self-motivating and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
