Role description
The BHI Global Privacy Team, led by the US-based Privacy Leadership Team, plays an important role in supporting and overseeing privacy across all Booking Holdings companies. The Privacy Support Team is also tasked with supporting our parent company, Booking Holdings Inc., and its Centers of Excellence in Romania and India in ensuring compliance from a privacy and data protection perspective and addressing privacy risks. By combining global expertise with localized insights, we deliver tailored solutions that strengthen the organization's overall privacy framework.
This is a mid-to-experienced-level legal professional responsible for providing strategic and operational guidance on privacy and data protection laws to ensure an organization’s compliance with global privacy regulations. This role involves advising on legal risks, shaping privacy policies, supporting business initiatives, and serving as a subject matter expert on privacy-related matters.
This role is central to ensuring an organization’s compliance and fostering trust with internal and external stakeholders, regulators, and partners by demonstrating a strong commitment to ethical data management. It balances legal expertise with a practical understanding of business and technology.
This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties
Able to deliver on the following scope of work independently, while often mentoring junior team members. Specifically, it is tasked with handling more ambiguous or multifaceted problems requiring critical thinking and innovative approaches, including being involved in cross-functional collaboration:
Privacy assessments, including privacy impact assessments, data transfer impact assessments, legitimate interest assessments
Management of records of personal data processing activities
Contracting support for privacy subject matter areas, mainly data processing and data transfer agreements
Research and analyses on matters of regulatory compliance
Data subject request intake and execution
Privacy notices, privacy policies and procedures
Privacy training and awareness program
Contributes to decision-making by identifying and providing actionable insights, and is frequently empowered to make decisions within their own responsibilities
Acts as a mentor in supporting the development of junior team members. May take responsibility for smaller projects
Communicates with mid-level stakeholders and adapts communication styles for different audiences. Presents complex insights in a digestible manner.
Role Qualifications and Requirements
5-8 years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Law
Experience in, and a strong passion for technology, big data, data governance and data privacy, preferably having experience in a tech company
Good knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity laws in EU
Familiarity with the following tools is strongly preferred: OneTrust, Conga CMS
Ability to work independently from intake through execution
A collaborative team player
Fluent in English (written and verbally)
It's great if you have:
A data privacy qualification, CIPP or equivalent or at least willing to obtain one shortly after joining the company
Exposure to data privacy and cybersecurity laws in APAC and Americas
Prefer practicality over theory, and be persuasive
Adaptive to change and enthusiastic approach to challenges in a diverse environment
Experience with contract reviews and counseling Product, IT, Marketing and Design teams
