Role description

The CoE Legal and Public Affairs Services team is looking for a senior privacy operations professional and a seasoned people manager to lead the newly created Manager, Global Data Releases Operations role. This is a key position for the global data releases strategy of Booking.com. The successful candidate for this role will be leading and managing a team of privacy operations analysts handling regulatory data disclosure requests in compliance with legal requirements driven by the evolving landscape of global data and consumer protection laws. 

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Data release operations subject matter expertise: Demonstrate deep expertise in operationalizing laws and regulations governing access requests for company data from government, regulatory, and law enforcement as well as other public bodies, associations and individuals. 

  • Support the centralization of Data Release Management: Support the design and implementation of a comprehensive function centralizing the various data release requests, including those from law enforcement, data subjects, regulatory bodies, and subpoenas. 

  • Program development: Leading the operationalization of data release processes, including tooling, and reporting with a hands-on approach.

  • Support strategic Governance and Implementation: Support the establishment of governance structures and workflows, and oversee the operational implementation of strategic, risk-based decision-making for data releases. 

  • Technological Integration and Automation: Support the strategic adoption and integration of advanced tools and standardized workflows to ensure scalable, automated, and secure data release processes. 

  • Process Efficiency and Training. Performance management. Develop efficient and consistent ways of working for all. Showcasing consistent focus on defining, monitoring and accurately tracking relevant performance metrics for data releases operations, and contributing the data to inform decisions including strategic decisions. Assess and deliver results in a consistent and sustainable manner. 

  • Stakeholder management. Work with internal stakeholders in Booking.com including Legal and Public Affairs, office managers and business area managers, to align and deliver on the global data releases strategy and related objectives, drive beneficial business outcomes and develop cross-functional working relationships. Provide strategic guidance on how to respond to questions and resolve challenges in relation to regulators, law enforcement authorities, Courts of law and other public bodies  globally.

  • People management responsibilities and leadership.: Managing and developing several operational teams focusing on data releases.  In the people manager capacity, act as initial point of escalation for direct reports, coordinate performance from team members (direct reports and indirect reports) including task delegation, and monitoring of accurate and timely delivery. Conduct individual performance reviews and provide continuing feedback to direct reports identifying areas for improvement in productivity or quality, and offering related guidance and support for continuing improvement. Provide guidance and support to direct reports for their personal development and growth in line with business goals, and guide them to identify relevant learning opportunities including formal training sessions and workshops.

  • Resource management. Ensure effective resource planning and management, including workforce planning, by anticipating peak workloads and team member availability (including holidays and leaves) to proactively manage availability for efficiency.

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree

  • Written and verbal fluency in English and overall excellent communication skills

  • 6+ years of experience in managing a team in a global large scale corporate environment, including capacity management and performance management for a large team with demonstrable results

  • Experience advising on privacy, regulatory  and/or compliance matters, including risk management 

  • Exposure to various legal systems

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to anticipate escalations and prioritize tasks appropriately using clear communications, comfortable managing multiple and often competing priorities

  • Experience providing data support to investigators or analysts and in-depth understanding of technical data sets

  • A process mindset, with experience driving process optimization and performance improvement initiatives 

  • Strong judgement and decision making ability, including in relation to corporate strategic initiatives and goals

  • Demonstrates integrity & highly ethical

  • Curious and with critical thinking skills

  • Displays self-discipline, effective organization skills

      Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a field relevant for the scope of the role

  • Certification in the area of privacy such as data protection/ privacy compliance  (e.g. CIPP), cybersecurity/ data security practices, privacy program management  

  • Experience working with global large scale business organizations in the technology industry

  • Combined experience working in an in-house legal department and in an international law firm

  • Experience providing data support to investigators or analysts at a global technology company

  • Understanding of technical data sets used by law enforcement agencies to support investigations

  • Experience with investigations from national or EU regulators, or law enforcement authorities
