We are seeking an experienced Cloud Database Engineering Manager to lead and drive our database engineering team toward operational and technological excellence.
In this role, you will shape and implement strategies for modernizing database deployments, influencing the integration of emerging technologies, and enhancing our cloud database service offerings, all while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Steer the team toward a product ownership mindset to deliver "database as a service" offerings to cloud consumer teams
- Develop a vision and strategy for modernizing database technologies including SQL, SQL PAAS, NoSQL, Cosmos DB, MariaDB, and Postgres SQL
- Transform team operations with methodologies and tools like CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, Azure DevOps, and Bicep
- Act as a technology transformation coach during cloud onboarding and application transformations
- Assume operational ownership of database technologies for traditional-ops teams and serve as a database coach for full-stack teams
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and integrate insights into current systems and business improvements
- Interface with teams across Business, Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Networking to ensure alignment with technical designs and IaC migrations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives, cost-saving initiatives, and seamless technical deployments
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of future business needs and align IT projects with cloud architecture strategies
- Provide critical subject matter expertise across multiple projects, processes, and technologies
- Organize and participate in 24/7 on-call rotations for domain-specific expertise
- Oversee service management for externalized services like Oracle and DB2 in nearshore or offshore concepts
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in database engineering or cloud infrastructure roles with leadership exposure
- Expertise in managing database systems like SQL, SQL PAAS, Cosmos DB, MariaDB, Postgres SQL, and NoSQL solutions
- Proficiency in CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and tools like Terraform, Ansible, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Bicep
- Background in cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and their database services
- Familiarity with service management practices for externalized database services in nearshore or offshore models
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in mentoring and team development
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication abilities
Nice to have
- Experience guiding vendors, consultants, and system integrators in database-centric projects
- Capability to work across multiple organizational units and global teams
