Role description
Data Governance Specialist will support the implementation and advancement of data governance practices across the Booking Holdings brands. This role plays a key part in ensuring that BKNG’s data is trusted, well-managed, and aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
As a Data Governance Specialist, you will collaborate with global stakeholders to implement data governance frameworks (e.g. DAMA DMBOK) and the underlying principles — and contribute to the ongoing development of the brands data management capabilities. You will act as a bridge between business and technical teams, advising on best practices, facilitating adoption of policies and standards, and supporting the integration of governance tools and processes.
This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties
Support the design, rollout, and continuous improvement of data governance frameworks/capabilities, policies & standards, and procedures.
Provide domain expertise on data governance methodologies and best practices (using industry frameworks e.g. DAMA).
Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to define, set up and implement data governance capabilities (e.g. data ownership and stewardship).
Assist in the configuration and use of data governance and data catalog tools.
Advise teams/stakeholders on data quality management, metadata management, master & ref data management and data lifecycle practices.
Support data literacy initiatives and help embed a culture of data accountability across BKNG.
Role Qualifications and Requirements
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Computer Science or other analytical areas.
Prior experience working in data governance, data cataloging/lineage or comparable data-oriented role is required. Greater than 3 years of relevant experience is preferred.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with written and verbal English.
Complex problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills, Storytelling with data, Stakeholder management.
Ability to work independently.
Nice to have:
Experience working with Product Managers and Software/Data Engineering Teams
Experience with Collibra, JIRA, Gitlab, Snowflake, Python, Project Management Tools
Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP certification)
