The Junior Security Engineer assists in designing, integrating and operating data protection services to safeguard Booking.com data across platforms. Success looks like delivering production‑ready changes under supervision, improving service reliability and automation, and reducing data exposure while learning and applying company Security and Compliance standards. 

 

This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.

 

 

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Assist in implementing and operating Data Loss Prevention services (endpoint, CASB, email) across enterprise and public cloud platforms, following Data Security policies and team runbooks, to reduce data exposure and exfiltration risk under supervision.
  • Support sensitive data discovery and classification in priority data stores and services, using approved classifiers and scanning templates, to increase visibility and triage findings while updating coverage/quality metrics with guidance.
  • Contribute to enforcing the public‑cloud Data Security Baseline (e.g., encryption in transit/at rest, key management, preventive/detective guardrails) on cloud resources, applying reference architectures and IaC patterns to achieve a security‑by‑default posture.
  • Apply foundational SRE practices to team services by using defined SLOs/alerts, participating in postmortems, and automating routine tasks, to improve reliability and time‑to‑recovery in line with incident playbooks.
  • Support integration and upkeep of secrets‑detection in developer platforms (e.g., GitLab) and other team collaboration spaces, configuring routing and basic remediation workflows and maintaining dashboards, to reduce credential exposure under established procedures.
  • Collaborate with Security Engineers, Analysts, Developers, and stakeholders to implement Security and Compliance standards, communicate progress and risks clearly, and deliver safe‑by‑default changes with peer review.

 

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in information security

  • Asset Security, Access Management, Cloud Security

  • Encryption, PKI

 

Technologies and Tools

  • Must have

    • Operating System: Linux

    • Public Cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP

    • Programming/Scripting: Bash, Python

    • Source Control & CI/CD: Gitlab, GitLab CI/CD

  • Nice to have

    • Observability & Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic
    • Containerisation: Kubernetes, Docker
    • IaC: Terraform
    • Configuration Management: Puppet, Ansible
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP), CASB tools
