Job description

The Senior System Engineer for Application and Desktop Virtualization is responsible for the overall health and performance of the organization’s virtualization environments. This role requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise, a proactive approach to system maintenance, and strong user-facing support skills.

Core Responsibilities:

    • System Maintenance and Monitoring:

  • Conduct routine checks and monitoring of all virtual environments to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operation.
  • Perform regular maintenance, including the installation of software updates, patches, and security fixes.
    • User Support and Troubleshooting:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for user requests and issues related to virtual desktops and applications.
  • Quickly and efficiently resolve a wide range of problems, from routine inquiries to complex technical issues.
  • Escalate unresolved issues to specialized internal teams or external software vendors when necessary, managing the full case lifecycle.
    • Project Planning and Implementation:

  • Lead new virtualization projects, including technology upgrades and application migrations to the cloud.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure new systems are seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure.
    • Documentation and Training:

  • Maintain and update comprehensive technical documentation to ensure clarity and accuracy for the IT team.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for end-users and junior IT staff to improve system proficiency and reduce common errors.

What skills we look for: 

We are seeking a candidate with a strong foundation in virtualization and a dedication to continuous learning.

Technical Skills:

  • Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops: Experience with Citrix solutions for delivering virtual applications and desktops.
  • Windows Server: In-depth knowledge of Windows Server administration, particularly Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • TCP/IP and Network Configuration: Understanding of network topologies and protocols required for virtualization.
  • PowerShell: Ability to write scripts to automate management tasks in Windows environments.
  • Access Control: Knowledge of implementing access control mechanisms and security policies.
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, especially for virtual desktop and application deployment.

Communication Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and users.
  • Excellent English language skills are required, and German is a significant plus.
