April 29, 2025, Bucharest: STRABAG SE, the publicly traded European technology group for construction services, maintained a stable output volume of €19.2 billion in 2024 and set a new record for its order backlog, exceeding €25.3 billion—an 8% increase compared to 2023. Net profit after minority interests increased by 31%, reaching €823 million.

The order backlog saw significant growth in Germany, particularly in the infrastructure and civil engineering sectors. Significant increases were also reported in Poland, Austria, Slovakia, and Romania.

STRABAG has been active in the Romanian market since 1991, establishing its headquarters in Bucharest in 1994. Currently, STRABAG SRL, the Romanian subsidiary, has offices in all major cities across the country: Bucharest, Timișoara, Sibiu, Cluj, Brașov, and Iași. In Romania, the company operates in all construction sectors, particularly in the segments of transportation infrastructure, building construction, and civil engineering, as well as in environmental construction projects, covering the entire construction value chain.

“In 2024, we focused more than ever on building for the long term: investing in better working methods, smarter technologies, and more sustainable practices. The trust our partners place in us confirms that we are on the right track, and we are confident that this positive trend will continue throughout 2025,” said Herbert Schuster, Commercial Managing Director at STRABAG Romania.

Building smarter, working more efficiently: In 2024, STRABAG Romania obtained ISO 19650 certification for the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in its projects—a crucial step in the process of digitizing the way we build. This achievement reaffirms our commitment to efficiency, innovation, and sustainability. By integrating advanced technologies, we were able to complete the expressway project connecting the Oradea Beltway to the Transylvania Highway ahead of schedule.

Another milestone of the 2024 business year was the launch in Romania of the “Work On Progress” online platform, which reflects our long-term environmental commitments and highlights concrete, science-based, and measurable actions to reduce our ecological footprint.

Growing locally, building nationally: In 2024, we continued to expand our teams and local presence. We opened new offices in Iași and Brașov to better support regional projects, and our civil engineering unit in Cluj expanded by setting up a dedicated space for more efficient coordination. In Timișoara, we brought the teams together under one roof to facilitate collaboration and streamline operations across different business lines, such as infrastructure and civil engineering.

Outlook for 2025: STRABAG SE expects a significant increase in production volume in the 2025 fiscal year, up to approximately 21 billion euros. This forecast is based on the high order backlog and the expected contributions from recent acquisitions, such as the Georgiou Group in Australia. As a result, an increase in production volume is anticipated across all operational segments in 2025. In Romania, several key projects are scheduled for completion in 2025, including the Hobanat Bridge over the Someș River in Satu Mare, the modernization of Târgu Mureș Airport, and the Făgăraș Bypass—which is already more than 90% complete. Progress is also being made on flagship projects in the real estate sector, such as The ARC office building in Bucharest and the academic hub in Timișoara for the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Another highly complex project is the modernization of National Road 73 between Câmpulung and Fundata—a 37.6-km section characterized by difficult terrain and historical delays. Managed by ARL Cluj (part of the STRABAG Group), the project involves extensive work: road widening, bridge rehabilitation, and the reconstruction of a significant number of culverts. Despite technical challenges, work is progressing steadily, reflecting STRABAG’s commitment to developing modern and sustainable infrastructure nationwide. Nationwide, STRABAG remains dedicated to delivering high-quality projects, meeting deadlines, and strengthening local partnerships.
