Riverbed Romania: good practices for satisfied employees

We wanted to discover the working atmosphere in Riverbed Romania so we spoke with Miklos Uszkai, Site Lead and Director of Engineering.

He and his teams are focused on transforming data into actionable insights within Riverbed’s Alluvio portfolio developing products such as Alluvio IQ, AppResponse, NetProfiler. Miklos strives to grow Riverbed’s presence and product portfolio in Romania, by creating an inclusive, trusting, innovative and enjoyable environment.

It’s worth mentioning that Riverbed was voted Top Employer by its employees in the SME category, with the company ranking 9th in the Undelucram Romanian Employers Top 2022.

Courtesy of Miklos, here are some good practices the company uses in managing the relationship with its employees, thus ensuring their retention in the organization in the long run.

 

1. In your opinion, what is the main factor that makes a candidate choose an employer in 2023?

I think in 2023 candidates will mainly focus on the stability and security of their jobs. This will represent an important decision factor in choosing a company and they will spend more time researching the brand, the history and reputation of the company. Alongside salary, which continues to be a priority, the difference will be made through the recruiting process. Being consistent and transparent in communicating the planning and the job proposition to the candidates is a way to develop trust and a productive collaboration.

 

2. Through employee reviews, Undelucram brings transparency to the market. How do you welcome this initiative?

Transparency is a key asset in Riverbed’s organizational culture and it’s what drives our activity and relationship on all levels. We’re excited to be part of the Undelucram community and to give our employees an opportunity to speak openly about Riverbed. We are thankful for every review, and we encourage our colleagues, former colleagues, and candidates to share their experience with Riverbed. Everyday we learn to be better together, and we rely on honest and transparent feedback that we are then able to integrate in our way of working.

 

3. Do you consider that salary remained the main factor in choosing a job? What is your strategy for salary growth in 2023?

Certainly, the salary remains among the top factors that determine a candidate to choose a job and it directly relates to the security that people look for on a more dynamic labor market than the one we had in 2022. For some time now, our strategy has been to continually adjust our approach to compensation in the market, with regular market data updates and opportunities to reward the local team for all their hard work.

 

4. Younger generations emphasize diversity in the team. How is the topic of generation and nationality mix addressed in your company?

The cross-cultural backgrounds and varied life experiences of our employees are a significant added value to us, that is reflected in everything we do as a company. Riverbed has a strong Diversity and Inclusion activity, with a dedicated team that supports and develops policies and programs for our global presence and framed to create positive work experience for all our employees. The Diversity and Inclusion activity runs internally and externally as we are focused on engaging with different global communities and partners in building a better world.

Our commitment is to prioritize diversity, inclusion, and belonging so that Riverbed can be a company where all voices are welcome, heard, and valued. We strive to build an inclusive work environment where everyone feels safe to bring their authentic self to work.

 

5. What Employer Branding actions did you take in 2022 and what are your plans for 2023?

2022 was significant for increasing Riverbed’s Employer Branding activity in Romania. We have grown from a small group of developers working on a niche product to over 50 colleagues and working on key product innovation. Last year was very important for this growth and we concentrated on connecting with more candidates, being more visible on the market and creating opportunities for people to discover Riverbed. We built an official page on Undelucram.ro, participated in or hosted events that brought people closer to us, to our teams, activity and premises when this was possible – Hacker Jam Cluj, Noaptea Companiilor. On a global level, Employer Branding was amplified by introducing the Talent Brand Ambassador program, emphasizing on how the Power of WE can have an impact on sharing our culture and Life@Riverbed. We also focused on leveraging our employees’ satisfaction and continued to grow an environment where everyone feels appreciated and belonging. We focused on reviewing our benefits and expanding them to support the overall wellbeing of our employees. For 2023, we plan to continue with all these initiatives and become increasingly visible to a wide range of people.

 

6. How did you approach the subject of remote/hybrid/office in 2022 and how do you think your policy has been reflected in the company's image in the market?

Riverbed had an open approach towards remote/hybrid/office and supported all models in the most favorable way for the employees. Even before the pandemic, we started an initiative that offered 1 day/week home office as part of promoting flexibility and better work/life balance. 2022 was defining for our working policy as we built an inclusive model with remote and hybrid work options, based on the our employee’s location and personal situation. We have also opened up a new site in Bucharest, making it easier for our previously remote colleagues to connect and collaborate when they need to.
